At Last - the BIG Kitty!

Notice that the lion is the same color as the grass -he's invisible if he wants to be.

He boldly walked across the road between parked vans filled with excited humans.

Look at all the tourists! The drivers have CBs and they let each other know when an animal has been sighted.

The big cat takes a leisurely drink.

Amboseli Sopa Lodge

The Amboseli Sopa Lodge was an oasis in the dusty Kenyan interior.
We were greeted by a Masai warrior dressed in traditional clothing and then handed a wet washcloth to clean the dust from our faces. Sopa means "welcome" in SwahiliThe rooms were individual thatched huts.
This is the only place we stayed without mosquito nets.
The satellite dish looks a bit out of place, doesn't it?Sarah and Lilian cooling their feet in the pool.
Taking a moment to relax and reflect.
This beautifully flowering tree was just outside our hut.

Resort Life!

Movin' into the lap of luxury! The elephants are grouped around the pond just outside the hotel. We watched them as we lounged on the deck.A purple bird - I think it's a starling, but I could be wrong...This bird is blue, but it's not a bluebird...A cute gray mammal
This colorful lizard looked fake!
George is most likely teaching Jane more Swahili words!
Alice, Alice, (bow-balice...), Jane, and Marilynn are ready for the first Game Drive. Woo-hoo! Incidently, "safari" means "journey" in Swahili . Thus our entire Kenyan journey could be called a safari. Taking a jaunt to view exotic animals is called a game drive.

Cool tree - Gee, Dorothy, we aren't in Kansas any more!
This tree is full of starling nests that are suspended from branches and sway in the breeze.
